Swedish prime minister Ulf Kristersson stated on Monday that it was a “historic day,” after Hungary’s parliament ratified Sweden’s Nato bid, clearing the ultimate impediment for the Nordic nation to hitch the navy alliance.
“In the present day is a historic day. The parliaments of all Nato member states have now voted in favour of Swedish accession to Nato. Sweden stands able to shoulder its duty for Euro-Atlantic safety,” Kristersson stated in a press release to X.
Nato’s Secretary-Common Jens Stoltenberg welcomed on Monday the Hungarian parliament’s vote.
Taking to X he stated, “I welcome the Hungarian parliament’s vote to ratify Sweden’s membership in Nato. Now that each one Allies have permitted, Sweden will turn into the thirty second Nato Ally. Sweden’s membership will make us all stronger and safer..”
Hungary was the final among the many 31 members of the alliance to clear the best way for Sweden to hitch the Western defence alliance as warfare rages in Ukraine.
